Celebrating 100 Years of Education at John A. Leslie Public School: A Milestone for the Scarborough Bluffs Community

This past weekend we had the pleasure of attending the 100 Year Anniversary of John A. Leslie Public School, the former elementary school and old stomping grounds of Nadine and her siblings.

The centennial celebration of John A. Leslie Public School in the Scarborough Bluffs was an event filled with nostalgia and community spirit. This historic milestone marked a century of educational excellence, and the festivities brought together students, alumni, and faculty from across the decades. For Nadine, this event was particularly exciting, as it offered a chance to revisit the cherished memories of her childhood.

Nadine attended John A. Leslie in the early 1990s, even winning the Student of the Year Award in 1992. Nadine remembers many valuable lessons from this time in her life and enjoyed building memories with her older brother and sister who also, walked the same hallways, making John A. Leslie a cornerstone of Mungal family history.

The event featured a bunch of fun activities including a photo booth, live music, performances and an incredible gallery of hundreds of photos lining the walls, chronicling the school's storied history. A highlight of the day was the retaking of class photos from various decades, including the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, 00’s and current students.

Among the attendees were former classmates, friends, and beloved teachers, all gathered to honor a shared past. The event provided a unique opportunity for Nadine and her siblings to reconnect with familiar faces and relive treasured moments.

Reflecting on the celebration, Nadine and her mother Grace remarked, "John A. Leslie has always been a special place for our family. Celebrating 100 years of education here brings back so many memories and reminds me of the incredible foundation this school provides children of the community. It's an honor to celebrate the school’s history and future with this milestone."
