Our Story

Picture it – Toronto 1967…

The Leafs win the Stanley cup, the city skyline is getting higher by the day and the Mungals, a small island family from the West Indies, have arrived ready to explore a new country, new culture and big city life – or so you would think. This is the start of our very own story…

One fateful Saturday young dapper Neville, along with his siblings were gathered up by their father for an outing to explore this great new city that they had began to settle in. Maybe they would take a streetcar ride into the city to see the famous landmarks of Toronto? Perhaps a ferry ride over to the Toronto Islands? Nope – it was a family adventure to a Franchise Trade Show. Yes that’s right, a Franchise Expo – everyone’s ideal weekend activity, right?

Although it may have taken some convincing to get them there, Neville and his new bride Grace learned about the magic of the 1-hour dry cleaning service, which would become the roots of their future business.

Like most owners trying to get their business off the ground it took a lot of blood, sweat and tears… and a whole lot of “what were we thinking!”. However, in true Mungal style, we did not call it quits. Instead, From time to time Neville would come up with even more zany ideas to expand the business and prayed that Grace would go along with it!

One of those zany (more like brilliant) ideas was “Grace Restoration Lab” (Known today as the “Grace” in Style & Grace Cleaners), spearheaded by none other than the matriarch of the family, Grace.

In the early 90’s Grace had to work to get her name out there. So like any resourceful mother, she recruited her children to help work bridal trade shows. This was exactly what her children had in mind for their weekends, of course! Although it might not have seemed like the most fun at the time, this is where Grace and Neville’s children: Don, Giselle and Nadine began to grow their own knowledge for the family business.

As the gown care and garment care business grew, Grace and Neville’s son Don put his degree in Business Management to good use, becoming more engrained in the business, while his sisters pursued their own careers and to start their own families who will be enlisted to help, in due time.

Today, Style & Grace Cleaners is still run as a family business rounded out by an extended family of incredible staff members. Recently, the youngest sibling Nadine has found her way back to her first and favourite job and now plays a vital role on the team, working alongside her mother.

The final member of our family is of course you – our cherished clients, who are building your own family traditions and history. Our family has many stories to tell and we want to help you preserve the chapters of your own. Welcome to the family!
